Cause & Effect
Children need to recognize cause and effect relationships so that the reasons events happen is understood. This critical skill will allow children to learn to make sense of situations in order to avoid danger or misunderstandings with other people as well as strengthen the skill of predicting outcomes.
Begin with discussing situations that happen at home or at school which demonstrate this relationship. It will probably be easier to talk about a cause first and then the possible effect(s) of that cause. After children are successful with this type of activity, you may want to present them with end results and see if they can identify one or more causes.
Suggested activities and games will help support these skills in children and adolescents.
