Voice Disorders
Children and adolescents with voice disorders have problems with pitch, loudness, or voice quality that draws negative attention to the way they talk. Voice disorders can either be functional or organic. Functional voice disorders are most commonly caused by voice misuse or abuse whereas organic disorders are caused by physically-related problems.
Otolaryngologists are the only professionals qualified to determine the cause of an individual’s voice disorder. Once a diagnosis has been made, speech-language pathologists are the best professionals to treat functional voice disorders.
